Explore Canada Series: Part 10 - Northwest Territory

by Jason Crowley 14 Aug 2025

Two Failed Attempts. One Public Vow.

Northwest Territories: Part 10 — July 24, 2025

📖 Story Time: The One That Got Away

I’ve tried. Twice.

Once, I made it all the way up north—friends in tow, bags packed, gear ready. We landed in Iqaluit. And yes, that trip was unreal.

The tundra looked like it belonged on another planet. The silence was loud. The sky felt endless.

But this isn’t about Nunavut.

This is about the one I still haven’t done.

The Northwest Territories.

For years, it’s lived in the group chat—talked about, dreamed of, shared via Instagram DMs with a “this could be us” caption.

And year after year, it’s slipped away.

So here it is:
📣 I’m making a public commitment to get to the NWT within the next 12 months.

No more “someday.” No more excuses. Just one Northern Sun field test, a few good layers, and a calendar with the dates locked in.

If you’ve got a trip like that—one that keeps calling from the background—you know the feeling.

Maybe this is your sign too.

Unique Experiences

Only in The Northwest Territories

Right now, we’re entering a Solar Maximum—a cycle where the sun goes wild and supercharges the Northern Lights.

That means:

  • 🔥 Brighter aurora

  • 🌠 More frequent sky shows

  • 🎇 Even crazier colours and movement

In the NWT, you don’t need permits or backcountry guides to see them.
You can literally step out of your cabin in Yellowknife, look up, and boom—light show of your life.

Or better yet—book an Indigenous-led aurora experience and learn the deep stories behind the lights.

Because it’s not just science.
It’s spiritual.

📍 More on that here →

Jason’s (Future) Recommendation ✨

Look—I haven’t made it there yet.
But this video will have you packing your bags:
👉 Why The NWT Is A Must-See For Every Canadian

It talks about:

  • Rivers that haven’t seen a boat in years

  • Trails with no reviews—just silence

  • Real human connection, off-grid peace, and the wildest version of Canada

I’ve already shared it with a dozen friends. Now I’m sharing it with you.
Because this kind of trip? You don’t get it back if you wait too long.

📆 So Here’s the Ask

  • Hold me accountable.

  • Text your group chat.

  • Book the ticket.

And when we finally go?
We’re bringing good gear, good friends, and zero regrets.

Got something to share? Stories, tips, or just want to say hey—drop it in the comments. We read everything and love hearing from fellow explorers.
