Explore Canada Series: Part 25 - David Thompson Country
David Thompson Country, Alberta – Part 25: August 12, 2026
Some places feel just as good - without all the noise. David Thompson Country is one of those places.
Running west from Red Deer along Highway 11, this stretch gives you everything you’d expect from the Rockies - turquoise lakes, mountain views, waterfalls—but without the crowds that come with the more well-known spots. It feels a little more open. A little less rushed.
You’re not circling parking lots or waiting your turn for a photo. You’re pulling over when you feel like it, taking your time, and actually getting to enjoy where you are.
If You Go
- Abraham Lake - Bright blue water, wide open views, and plenty of space to explore.
- Crescent Falls - Easy to access and worth the stop every time.
- Nordegg - A small town that’s perfect for a mid-trip reset—coffee, fuel, and a slower pace.
- Siffleur Falls - Short hike, big reward.

Good to Know
Weather can shift quickly in the mountains - bring layers, even on hot days.
It’s quieter than Banff, but still popular in summer - early mornings are worth it.
Happy exploring!
